The logo of the tercentenary is based on a picture that was painted by the leading botanical artist of his day, Georg Dilnys Ehret. The painting illustrates Class 10 of the sexual system.

Celebrations

There is a huge programme of events for the national day of celebration in Råshult and Uppsala.

Kronobergs County
Linnaeus country invites you to a special party, with celebrations taking place at several locations: at the birthplace of Linnaeus, in the nature reserves around the Möckeln lake, in Stenbrohult where he grew up, and in Möckelsnäs with its newly built orangery.
17 May. The official opening of the Möckelsnäs orangery and its Linnaeus garden with Minister for Culture Lena Adelsohn Liljeroth.
19 May. Official opening of the anniversary week - a national programme of celebration at Råshult. Crown Princess Victoria will officially open the celebrations and Alice Bah Kuhnke will be our guide throughout the opening ceremony.
19 May - 27 May. Full activity throughout Linnaeus country, all activities provide their own special charm and their own special part of the 18th century. Music, theatre, film, literature, lectures, art, research, story-telling, glorious flowers, church services and much, much more, with something for all ages. Marika Griehsel´s film “Mr Flower Power" has its première in Älmhult, the Post Office will be there with tercentenary stamps and a special postmark, while a newly written work will be given its first performance in Växjö Cathedral on the actual date of Linnaeus´ birth, with Växjö Cathedral Choir and Musica Vitae.

Uppsala
The national celebrations in Uppsala include activities throughout the week throughout the town, in the cathedral, at the university, in the Botanical Gardens, and at Linnaeus´ Hammarby.
20 May. Opening of the anniversary week at the Botanical Gardens. Celebrations including speeches, the opening of the newly refurbished Linneanum, an information centre for the tercentenary and a new exhibition about Linnaeus.
23 May. Service of remembrance in Uppsala Cathedral. Guests of honour will be the Swedish King and Queen with Crown Princess Victoria, and the Emperor and Empress of Japan. A wreath will be laid on Linnaeus´ grave, and newly composed music performed. The traditional academic procession and service in the University Grand Auditorium will follow.
19 May - 27 May. The whole of Uppsala will be full of life during the whole week, not just on 23 May. Flower Day, activities for children, concerts, exhibitions, services at several churches and in the open air. Special Linnaeus locations  will be holding open days: Gränby, the LinnaeusGarden, Linnaeus´ Hammarby, Linnaeus´ Sävja, and the Botanical Gardens. One can also visit the “Kunskapsmarknad om verkligheten" (the "Knowledge Market"). The week will end with promulgation of honorary doctors, nominated in memory of Linnaeus.
